As Seattle summer emerges in full glory and the Sun
blesses us with warmer days, the footfall on campus
increases exponentially. People rush to the UW quad to
bask in the sunlight. It is almost impossible to catch a
good spot on the grass- you will have to be an early bird
for this task! But don9t worry, you can still enjoy summer
on campus by giving in to your curiosity and doing
something interesting. Spend some time indoors and
explore these gems around campus.
Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture:
As you saunter into the lobby of the museum, be ready to
be greeted by a 39-foot-long Baird's beaked whale Open
from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm, the Burke offers
an environment of learning and inspiration through its
collections on nature and culture, with a focus on fossils,

Northwest Native art, flora and fauna collections, and
cultural pieces from across the globe. The museum spans
three floors and hosts its special exhibit on the second
floor in the special exhibit gallery!
UW Planetarium:
If the cosmos is something that you are intrigued about,
look no further than the UW Planetarium to spend your
time. The 30-foot dome is precisely constructed to
project an accurate view of the night sky as viewed from
anywhere on Earth. The shows are typically 45 minutes
long, and there is time for questions at the end. These
are free of cost, however, are very popular and tend to be
booked out. Make sure you reserve your tickets about a
month in advance to ensure a spot!
